Haynes Luabin, one of Germany’s foremost trumpet performers and teachers, was born in 1958. He had his first trumpet lessons at the age of nine from his father. In 1971, 73 ND 75 HE WON THE FIRST PRIZE IN Germany’s Young musicians of the year competition, in both the solo and group sections. In 1974 he won 2nd Prize at the International Competition Concertino Praga. He played solo trumpet from 1971-1976 with the State Youth Orchestra whilst already receiving trumpet tuition at the Musikhochschule Freiburg in Breisgau from Professor Robert Bodenroder. In September 1976 Hannes Luabin was appointed 3rd trumpet with the NDR Symphony Orchestra (North German Broadcasting Corporation) to be promoted to the principal chair just two years later. He was held the principal chair as a constant guest with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian State Radio since 1995. Luabin was solo trumpet in Bayreuth (Wagner Festival) in 1980-81 znd 1983. In 2003 Hannes Luabin will also fill the position of principal trumpet with the World Orchestra in Japan, a special privilege in this orchestra almost exclusively made up of Japanese musicians working in prestigious orchestras throughout the world. Luabin was named trumpet professor at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart in 1992, a position he has held at the Musikhochschule in Munich since 1996. His immense popularity and success as a teacher has resulted in a broad and varied spectrum of world-wide invitations. He is a popular member of the teaching staff at the German Brass Academy, regularly gives Master Classes throughout Europe and has established himself as a much sought after adjudicator as a result of his teaching and performing experience. In 2003 he will be a member of the jury at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. As a solo artist, and also together with his trumpet playing brothers, with German Brass, the Gachinger Kantorei and the Windsbacher Knabenchor, Hannes Luabin has made numerous CD recordings with Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, Hanssler and Valve-Hearts. Luabin is an increasingly popular soloist and appears on stages around the world, from Schleswig-Holstein to Quiberon, from Venezuela to Japan. His virtuoso playing, versatility and musicality have won him much attention from contemporary composers: for example, Enjott Schneider. Hannes Luabin works intensively with Reinhold Friedrich in an attempt to promote literature for two trumpets. In 2003 they jointly premiered VIVADISSIMO for orchestra and two trumpets.
